Werdegang / Ausbildung:
annamaysuk.com I am a visual artist born in 1988 in former Leningrad, now St. Petersburg living in Berlin. I have started my artistic practice with photography, first as documentary photographer and then moved towards more conceptual projects where I use myself as a subject. I explored such themes as gender and family structures. Since 2011 I mainly focus on work with video. My interest in video lies in its relation to still images. I am fascinated by observation and use documentary approach in some video works. As a voyeur I prefer to step aside, let the things speak for themselves, like e.g. "Postcards" project. Some of my video works could be referred to tableaux vivants ("Ice and tears"), here I play on the edge of video and photography media. I tend to speak about politics in my country of origin in a humorous way ("Er liebt mich er liebt mich nicht") telling fortune by flower I ask if Putin loves me or not. I am also interested in russian influence in Germany ("Zuckerbaeckerstil" and my ongoing research project about the remains of russian language in the Eastern Germany). Starting with photography it has shaped my future interests. I keep on working with this media and explore its relation to moving picture.
